Miss Universe 2011, Angola’s Leila Lopez touched down in Guyana early Thursday morning, and was welcomed by a Guyanese delegation who promised that she will have an enjoyable stay.
The reigning Miss Universe is on an official four-day visit as part of the activities leading up to the crowning of Miss Guyana Universe 2012, which is slated for the Princess Hotel and Casino, Providence, East Bank Demerara on last evening.
The beautiful Lopez, at a press conference hours after arriving in Guyana, expressed excitement to be in Guyana and said she hopes to explore the country to its fullest.
She explained that prior to her visit to Guyana, she became friends with the reigning Miss Guyana Universe 2011, Kara Lord, who said she would speak to the Miss Universe organisation seeking permission for her to visit this beautiful country.
“When I won Miss Angola pageant, Miss Guyana added me on Facebook and said that she would like to be friends with me so that when we go to Brazil we will meet up…. When I arrived in Brazil for the Miss Universe pageant, she (Miss Guyana) was the first person I saw… we became friends, so she talked a lot about Guyana and I talked about Angola,” the beautiful queen noted.
“We have been talking since then, and when I heard I was coming to Guyana for the few days. I was happy… I am here to see what Guyana has to offer,” she added.
The smiling Miss Universe also reflected on that night in São Paulo when she won the crown. She explained that she was frozen for a while, but prior to the final night she prayed that she would win the competition.
Meanwhile, the 2011 Miss Guyana Universe Kara Lord handed over her title to Ruqayah Boyer last evening.
