Suriname born Raqayya Boyer has been crowned Miss Guyana Universe 2012. Ms. Boyer’s parents are both Guyanese and she has lived most of her life in Guyana.
Boyer once benefited from the Miss Guyana Talented Teen pageant training and went on to win the Miss Linden Town Week 2010 pageant but failed to place in the Miss Guyana World 2011 Pageant.
Miss Angola Leila Lopes crowned the queen.
Niketa Barker who was an obvious favorite to win at both trainer’s and audience level, based on her striking good looks and beautiful body settled for the second place spot much to the disappointment of many in the audience who likened her to Madonna Ghannie of the previous year’s pageant. Like Ghannie, Barker is star quality with a pretty face and body to match but she really needed to work on her public speaking.
EmanI Bourne won the Miss Congeniality prize while Barker won the best smile and body beautiful prizes.
Fayena King placed 5th, Nakeshia Alexander 4th, Sadna Yunus 3rd and the beauty Nakita Barker, placed 2nd.
Boyer on winning expressed elation and vows that she will do all she can in her quest to bring the crown home from the International pageant billed for December. (Mondale Smith)
