Chris Gayle — through his foundation — will be hosting a Grand T20 Victory Party at 8 Victory Avenue, Chancery Hill, Kingston 19, on Saturday.
The all-inclusive event’s proceeds will go towards the Kingston-based Lucas Cricket Club and its nursery programme.
According to Radcliffe Haynes, director for the Chris Gayle Foundation, it is the cricketer’s way to ensure the continuity of the sport as well as assisting with restoration work at the institution.
“Lucas Cricket Club is where Gayle started as a youngster. That’s where he honed his skills,” Haynes told the Jamaica Observer. “He wants these youngsters to excel to the highest level as he did and this is one way of doing it.”
There are currently plans to construct three practice pitches, two made of concrete and one regular clay pitch.
Haynes said he is hoping that persons will come out and party with a cause.
Tickets are $10,000 and allow patrons to indulge in exquisite cuisine and premium liquor.
“The party would be a time for friends and family to come together in a nice atmosphere,” he said.
Originally founded in 1895, Lucas Club as it was renamed in 1898 and has been the home of cricket legends such as George Headley, Frank Worrell, and Gareth Breese.
