On Wednesday, December 19, Miss Guyana Universe Ruqayyah Boyer will compete against 88 other beauties from around the world for the coveted title of Miss Universe 2012.
The Miss Universe telecast will air live from the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas at 21:00h on NBC. A number of local stations will be televising the event.
The Guyanese beauty ambassador is already in Las Vegas. She participated in a number of photo shoots, dinners, interviews, and other pageant events.
Boyer’s management stated that she is confident she will represent Guyana to the best of her ability. She is adjusting to the new environment and working out vigorously. Boyer is optimistic that she will be among the finalists.
For the first time in the history of the pageant, online voters will have a chance to select one of the 16 finalists to vie for the crown. Guyanese can use the opportunity to vote for Boyer. All they have to do is vote online between Thursday, November 15, and Tuesday, December 18. Voting ends at 18:00h on December 18. Persons can vote up to 10 times per day per account/valid email address and the contestant receiving the most eligible votes will advance to the semi-finals.
The Guyanese delegate seems to be coping well at the international level, with her eyes firmly set on the prize.
On the night of the pageant, the contestants will be judged on swimwear, evening gowns, and intelligence.
National Costume Show tonight
For the first time, the National Costume Show will be webcast live – tonight at 20:00h Pacific Time (midnight local time). Each Miss Universe contestant will hit the runway in a costume that best represents her country.
