Adrian Dutchin hyped for Carib Soca Monarch

With two new releases, “Jook” and “Soca Do Me”, five times Road March King and three times Carib Soca Monarch Adrian Dutchin, is all hyped and ready for the Carib Soca Monarch Competition, while setting the stage for Mashramani.

Adrian Dutchin said that he is ecstatic that his new releases are loved by his fans. He said it is not easy to get material for every season and to be consistent. “Getting a song that people like and can gyrate to is a start for me, so I am happy that I was able to do it for this season,”Dutchin remarked.

He said he wanted to do something different, something that people will be able to party with, hence, the concept of “Jook”.  “I have done the groovy thing many times, so I needed to come different and want to jump up,” the Guyanese sensation noted.

“Jook”, Dutchin, pointed out, stemmed from a “spark”, he got and decided to put pen on paper. He said that he wrote the verse for “Jook” and needed to come up with a pre-chorus, and after he did that, he halted the composition process and one day when he was doing his thing, it all came to him and that is how he wrote “Jook”.

Dutchin said the “beat” was arranged and within a week of voicing, the track was ready. “The response was crazy; this was a big stepping stone for me as an artiste. If you do something, you want to keep upgrading and do it to the best of your ability,” he noted. The video for “Jook” is expected to be released today.

The Guyanese artiste said the change in his musical genre is a personal development, since “the way I sound last year, I’m not sounding like that this year, and I’m going to continue to push the bar and see how I can better my output”.

Dutchin also talked about how difficult it is to survive in the musical industry. “I have been doing this for a while and it is not getting easy. Getting into these studios and paying prices, which you would think is elaborate prices, but for the studio management, it is cheap.”

The soca artiste explained the reason big Caribbean artistes can sound good in their music is because they can afford to pay for the best facilities to do their recordings. “These guys are collecting royalties from cuts and I’m talking about a cheque for thousands of U.S. dollars just for the carnival season.”

Dutchin said in Guyana’s currency, it amounts to over a million dollars, and for him, it is too much to invest in a song, as there is no likelihood he would gain substantially.
On that note, he commended his competitors in the Carib Soca Monarch competition.
Dutchin said that he will be working to get into the semi-finals of the competition, and ultimately into the finals, and plans to have fun while doing so since in the past, he has always been pre-occupied with having everything done on time and perfect and had little time to have a good time.

The former soca monarch said that he is looking forward to compete alongside his friends from the Kross Kolors Studio, noting that the competition will be beautiful and filled with love.

Dutchin is also encouraging the 12 newcomers in the competition to put their all into what they do, be humble, make friends and take advise from band members.

He also cautioned them about performing in a studio and performing with a band, noting that the two are completely different. On that score, he said while performing on stage, a person can either make or kill a song.

Dutchin is urging all soca fans to support the local artistes, more so, him and his new single “Jook”.
