Naya Zamana 17 encore tomorrow

All arrangements are in place for an encore performance of the Naya Zamana 17 theatrical spectacular, titled “Bollywood Dreams” at the National Cultural Centre, this Saturday.

Hosted by the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, the 17th edition of Naya Zamana received overwhelming support from the Guyanese public when it premiered in September 2012, with all tickets being sold out two days prior to the event.

Featuring stunning dance sequences, choreographed by Dr Vindhya Persaud, set to a mix of classic and new Bollywood tracks, replete with grand sets and glittering costumes designed by Trishala Persaud and with a cast of 65, Naya Zamana 17–Bollywood Dreams dazzled audiences.

The story revolves around childhood friends Jiya and Sonia who love Bollywood movies. Sonia, played by Indhira Harry, wants to be a star and pursues this dream relentlessly while Jiya (Zahrah Alli) is more interested in mooning over the handsome actors, in particular the reigning Bollywood king, Yash Kapoor (Amit Shah). The doors to Bollywood open for Sonia when she lands a small part as a supporting dancer in a film. Whether she achieves her dream of superstardom, what happens when Jiya arrives in Bollywood, and who wins the love of Yash are all questions that will be answered.

Patrons are encouraged to get their tickets early for the January encore, so that they do not miss out on this opportunity to enjoy this outstanding production. The Sabha thanked Caribbean Airlines, NTN, TVG and E-Networks for their support of the production.

Tickets for this production cost $2000 and $1500, and are available at the Dharmic Sanskritik Kendra (227-6181); Red Mango on Robb Street; Bhagwan’s on Water Street; the Murti Shop, West Coast Demerara;  and the National Cultural Centre.
