He was known as the King of Rum-Ram, but now Kareem Dawkins, more popularly known as QQ, is proving that he is all grown-up.
The artiste recently released his newest song titled Ghetto Gal and although he has been receiving favourable responses for the track, there is some amount of controversy surrounding the single.
“It’s not that I have moved away from dancing songs, but I’ve grown up so I’m now exploring with different themes. This song is showing that I’m more mature and that I’m a versatile artiste. But even though I’m mature, my songs can still be fun,” QQ said.
He went on to say that he has been getting great feedback since the song’s release, but will now be focusing on a part two for the fans.
“Since I’ve released Ghetto Gal, a whole heap a uptown stush girls a say dem just as good as the ghetto girls, and even country girls are saying they feel left out. Fans have been asking if there’s a follow-up, so I’ll definitely be releasing a part two for the fans,” he said.
The second part of the single will be tentatively called ‘Ghetto Gal Part 2’ and according to QQ, the song will speak to girls on a universal level.
“The part two will talk about country girls, uptown girls, ghetto girls and all types of girls. Mi just waan dem know say from you can wine and do you ting, you hot,” he said.
QQ also said that since releasing a song with a more mature theme, fans have been commenting on his growth.
“People have been saying that I’ve really grown and that they like my maturity because even though I’m doing these kinds of songs, I still keep it clean and it’s not disrespectful.”
In the meantime, QQ is gearing up for the release of his reggae track titled Sorry Word which will be available on January 29.
“I’ve always had a love for reggae. It’s beautiful music and it keeps you relaxed. I want to help rebuild the reggae brand coming out of Jamaica and promote Jamaican culture on a whole,” he said.
