Vanilla & B52 “Tear De Roof” down

Vanilla and B52 have joined forces to take on the best of the rest as the staging of the ninth Carib Soca Monarch draws closer. Their entry is called “Tear De Roof”, an energetic piece that is expected to take Guyana by storm.

The two talented artistes during an interview expressed their excitement working together and are optimistic that the song will do well. While this is not the first collaboration between the two, it is the first time they have come together to participate at a competition level and they promise to deliver with full “energy”.

Vanilla and B52 both said they are ready for the 22 quarter finalists and hope that their entry meets the requirement of the judges so that they can move to the grand finale on February 16, at the National Park.

Vanilla, born as Melissa Roberts, lauded ANSA McAL for organising the competition early, noting that she expects to use it to her advantage while B52 in all smiles said he is ready for the energy and vibes that Mashramani brings. They both disclosed that they will start their campaign early so by the time the competition starts, Guyanese will be well grooved into “Tear De Roof”.

The concept of “Tear De Roof” was formulated after the two artistes received a tract from one of their counterparts in the U.S., and based on the energy, B52, who is also one of the writers along with Burchmore of Cross Colours, came up with the lyrics. B52 explained that as soon as he heard the track, he knew it would have been a song that is full of energy and vibes. The song was written in a few hours, and as the song says, they intend to “tear the roof” down.

B52 and Vanilla have planned to tackle the competition in a way that will create the vibes in advance of the competition. “As members of Kross Kolours, we understand that in order to get far in a competition, we have to stay focus… and keep our eyes on the prize,” B52 said.
They are encouraging their fellow competitors to bring their A game to the table because they intend to create a whirlwind when they make their appearance. For the newcomers, Vanilla and B52 urged them to be themselves and play their cards right.

The quarter-final of the competition is slated for the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground on February 2, while the semi-final will be held on February 9 at Rose Hall, Canje Ground, and the grand finale is set for February 16 at the National Park Tarmac.
