Guyanese Phedex takes aim at Jamaica

Guyanese dancehall/reggae artiste Phedex is determined to make his mark on the local music scene.

“It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to make an impact in Jamaica with my music. I have nothing but maximum respect for the people of Jamaica and their culture, so I really want to share my music with them,” said the artiste.

The hardcore deejay, whose biggest hit to date is Welcome To Guyana, plans to visit Jamaica early this year to undertake recording and promotional duties. However, in the meantime, he is getting ready to release and promote his first single locally.

“I’m going to release my first single in Jamaica before the end of February. The name of this single is New Year, and it has a nice vibe, and I’m sure the people are going to love it.”

Phedex has also engaged the services of top-flight publicist Ralston Barrett (R.A.B. Entertainment) to handle all his public relations and promotions locally.

“I know that it takes a lot of hard work and the right connections to make things happen in the music biz anywhere in the world, and I did my research and found out that Mr Barrett is one of the best publicist in Jamaica, so I decided to work with him and I’m confident he’ll do what’s necessary to help me make my name in Ja.”

Dancehall and reggae provided a foundation for Phedex, whose real name is Churaman Sukhram.

Raised in Berbice, Guyana, until the age of 10, he later moved to the United States in 1991, but knew from his childhood days that one day he’d make it big in the music industry. His family and friends dubbed him with the name ‘Phedex’ since they would always call on him to do various tasks.

His move to New York proved to be a great exposure to the reggae scene for him. Inspired by world-famous sound system Stone Love and True Force International and dancehall and reggae stars such as Super Cat, Yellow Man, Shabba Ranks and Beres Hammond, Phedex started to move with the flow and vibes of reggae in the late 1990s.

With much encouragement, Phedex soon created a sound system called Murda Love Movement. Slowly, Phedex paved his way up by playing at clubs, private parties, and reggae concerts.

With the knowledge, the energy, and the positive messages in the music, Phedex released his first hit single, Mo Gyal, produced at Ed Robinson’s E2 Studio for Award One Records, which made the top 5 in Pennsylvania. Streaming the radio stations are his upbeat and energetic tracks Party Started, Guyana/Cutlass, and the ever-blazing Ganja Anthem.

With a promising future on the horizon, Phedex is currently in the studios working on his debut album, which will feature his hit single Welcome to Guyana. From classroom DJ at the street corner to sharing the stage with Ed Robinson, Nardo Ranks, Junior Demus, Sean Paul, Mr Easy, and Junior Cat, just to name a few, Phedex is just starting to portray his true potential to the world.

Phedex’s music is available for fans to download on iTunes and Amazon.
