Kartel trial pushed back until May

Yet again, a Vybz Kartel murder trial has been stalled after a witness failed to cooperate with police, according to prosecutors.

The embattled deejay, whose real name is Adidja Palmer appeared in court on Monday where he was scheduled to stand trial in the Barrington ‘Bossie’ Burton murder case. However, the key witness in this trial refused to cooperate with law enforcement, causing the judge to set a May 27 date for the matter.

Kartel is charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm in the case and will be tried alongside other men accused in the killing: Lenburgh McDonald and Nigel Thompson.

Burton, a 27-year-old promoter/businessman was shot and killed during an alleged incident along Gregory Park in St. Andrew in July 2011.

May 27 is the same day the entertainer is expected to stand trial in the Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams murder case. Despite being granted JA$3million bail in the Burton case, he is unable to take it up as he remains incarcerated on a murder charge in the Williams matter.
However, Kartel’s legal team will know on Friday whether a new bail application they filed in the Williams case will prove successful.

The self-professed ‘Worl’ Boss,’ has been in police custody since September 2011.
