Trenacia Esseboom nominated for Gospel Award

Guyanese gospel artiste/minister Trenacia Esseboom-McKend is making strides and her work is now being acknowledged, not just locally but regionally and now in North America, in a way that many long for.

In the shadows of a rare few other Guyanese musicians, Trenacia now finds herself in the ranking of other Caribbean gospel artistes as she has been nominated for Gospel Music Minister of the Year (Female) at the Atlanta Caribbean Music Awards, which will be held in Atlanta, USA later this year.

The 2013 ACGMA celebration is poised to take Atlanta by storm. Birthed from an effort to give back to the ministers and individuals who made the music possible, the awards will be more than recognition of talents.

All winners in their respective categories will receive financial support reflecting 100 per cent of the proceeds from the event, exclusive gifts from the sponsors, as well as worldwide exposure. The star studded night is designed to allow fans the opportunity to appreciate the individuals who continue to bless them in so many ways.

The event will be held in Atlanta, and is expected to be aired locally and internationally. To nominate your favourite minister or song, log on to http://www.kingdom-link.com/awards/.

Guyana’s Trenacia is the first born of two children to Bishop Terrence Esseboom (University of Guyana Print Journalism Lecturer) and Vanessa Esseboom, who both pastor at the Light of Lights New Testament Church in Georgetown. She acknowledges that growing up with parents who are pastors has helped her walk with the Lord to be a steady and strong disciple.

Trenacia has been singing almost all her life, and has steadily been coming to great prominence locally, as she is known for her powerful vocals which set her apart and above many local talents, both in and out of the church.

She possesses an animated personality to go along her captivating smile and usually infectious laughter. But beneath the warm exterior resides a steely determination to excel at the highest level of Gospel music

“The pressure was tremendous. I was expected to be an “angel,” spotless and pure. Everything I did, was, and still is, criticised.” As difficult as it may have been, it is what fuelled her determination towards excellence. She recalls her mother, Vanessa Esseboom, always saying to her “turn the negative energy to a positive one” which is what kept her going many times.

In her own words Mrs McKend says, “I aspire, I reach, I hunger for greatness.
I will be all that God has called me to be. His will must be fulfilled in me! I know there is a lot of pressure and I have a lot of expectations to live up to but I am grateful for it. It has made me who I am, strong in the Lord”.

Some of her accomplishments include being a headliner for the ‘PLATINUM EDITION’ (2012) of the Barbados Gospel Fest; led the choir in singing Tremaine Hawkins ‘Wonderful Change’ at the Sanctuary New Testament Church of God in St Michael, and she also sang at Restoration Ministry, Mount Zion United Holy Church (UHC) and Mount Olive (UHC) in Barbados,
