Vybz Kartel’s business associate Michael Dawson, has refuted claims that the artiste was stabbed during a prison brawl at the Horizon Remand Centre on Tuesday and that he is soliciting funds to pay his lawyers.
Reports surfaced that the artiste was engaged in a fight on Tuesday night with another inmate when he was stabbed. But in a press release issued Thursday, Dawson said that there was no truth to the reports.
“It has come to our attention that there are several rumours being circulated about Adidja Palmer, better known as Vybz Kartel, regarding a stabbing incident at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre.
“These rumours are false,” he said.
“No such incident has been reported. No records of a fight in which he was involved, has been reported,” an officer at the Remand Centre confirmed Thursday.
Dawson also said that unscrupulous individuals have been using Kartel’s name in an attempt to scam money from the public.
He said that scammers have been contacting other artistes and fans claiming that Kartel needed contributions for his lawyers’ fees.
It was reported earlier this week that scammers were contacting people via Blackberry Messenger claiming to be Vybz Kartel and asking for money.
“We believe that these rumours were created to further attempt to defame Mr Palmer and frustrate his family and close associates,” he said. “Remedy will be sought to the full extent of the law,” Dawson added.
