Lorissa Lovell wins HJ Boom car

Lorissa Lovell of Kitty, Georgetown, broke down in tears Sunday after her name was pulled from the rotisserie as the winner of a brand new car when Hits and Jams Entertainment hosted its Boom Concert at the National Park before a massive crowd.

Lovell, who has been a frequently caller to the newly-launched HJ radio station, was elated to be the owner of a car for the first time. As her name was announced, she swiftly moved to the stage area with her hands on her mouth in disbelief as tears trickled from her eyes. Upon her arrival on stage to loud roars, she was asked to produce a form of identification which she did not have at that time, but she frantically attempted to phone someone at home with the intention of having them bring her ID card to the National Park so that she can claim her grand prize.

It was high drama while making contact with her relative; she dialled the wrong number; she was too excited to talk, thus forcing popular radio personality Stan Gouveia to make the critical contact.
In the meantime, she tried to convince the promoters that she was Lorissa Lovell. After a while, it was clear that she was actually the winner since she sang the song that she normally sings whenever she gets onto the programme. The crowd was also excited for the young woman and screamed “give her the car”. Without hesitation, HJ Director Rawle Ferguson handed over the keys of the brand new car to Lovell. The young lady is not a holder of a driver’s licence, but said she will get one since she is a proud owner of a car and expressed gratitude to HJ. Lovell was the winner of the call-in programme more than seven times.

A number of patrons were also lucky winners of headphones, digital cameras, mobile phones, and hampers from Banks DIH and ANSA McAL, among other prizes.
This is the second year that the fans appreciation concert was held by the entertainment company.

As was expected, it was a night of energy and high class performance by Guyana’s musical sensations. The performances which were scheduled to get underway at 21:00h, started after 22:00h, but in the meantime, entertainer Kerwin Bollers showcased his deejay skills and along with Selector Diamond, they steamed up the tracks.

The vibes by the two definitely put the audience in the right mood. The event got underway with a more-than-one-hour performance by the Heat Waves Band comprising Tennecia De Fretias and Calvin Burnette. They created the right party environment for a fantastic night, but not for long.

The rain drops came down and it caused the partyholics to scamper for cover. The show was interrupted on a number of occasions, but while some ran for shelter, some stayed and enjoy the vibes by a member of the Shakti Stings Orchestra, Stephen Ramphal. He sang a number of hits from popular soca and chutney artistes including KI, KES, Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin, Ravi B, among others. Positive jealousy took over after persons in the stands realised that those in the rain were having a ball and in minutes, the entire tarmac was packed with drenched and water-soaked revellers. As a result of the interruptions, some of the artistes’ time on stage was cut short.

G Money and his band performed his signature tune “Dangles” while George Anthony Abrams dished out “Wine attack”. During the interchanging of artistes, some giveaways were facilitated.

Minutes prior to the drawing of the car, X2 duo Jumo Primo and Adrian Dutchin rocked the revellers with their high-energy performance. From “Fireworks” to “Jook” and “Bad Mind People”, all rattled through the speakers and the crowd loved every bit of it. The duo also performed Vegas’ “Bruk It Down” and JW and Blaze’s “Palance”. The crowd was extremely peaceful and from all indications, they had a wonderful time in the rain or on the stands. The event was incident free.
