Miss Blueberry Hill Latisha Phillips was crowned Miss Linden Town Week 2013 at the pageant held at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground in Linden.
The show was held under the theme “The Rising”.
Latisha Phillips copped the prizes of one Jailing motorcycle, a pair of gold earrings, and a gift set for her astounding performance at the event, which was hosted by De Sheriff Entertainment and Club L&L.
The large crowd that witnessed the annual Linden Town Week pageant was well entertained as nine beautiful ladies participated in the intelligent and talent segments and flaunted magnificent outfits in the evening and swimwear segments.
Of the nine delegates vying for the title: Miss Silvertown Nikita McFarlane, Miss Watooka Kenisha Regis, Phillips, Miss Block 22 Nicola Rodney, Miss Retrieve Wrenea Sidney, Miss Amelia’s Ward Shevane Charles, Miss Coomacka Shanti Paul, Miss Kara Kara Kimberly Elexy, and Miss Central Mackenzie Laketa Mcphoy, only four were selected following the display of swimsuit and evening wear. They were: Mcphoy, Paul, Phillips, and Elexey. Paul was adjudged third runner-up, followed by second runner-up, Elexey. Then it was down to the final two – Mcphoy and Phillips.
Phillips, who was a crowd pleaser throughout the evening, was asked the question “if you could be either water or fire, which would you chose and why?” Her response thrilled the audience. “I would choose water, because it is a necessity, fire is found in natural resources such as the sun and water saves lives…”
Mcphoy had earlier performed the poem “Mad Lady”, which she had written for the talent segment. She will receive a trip to Trinidad and Tobago and a laptop computer.
The prize for best smile and Miss Congeniality were awarded to Charles. She will be awarded a digital camera for copping the best smile award. Best talent was awarded to Elexey who performed a poem “Me The Child Mother”, written by Michael James. She also won the best gown prize.
Meanwhile, prizes are yet to be awarded for best designed evening wear. Prizes were not handed over to the delegates after the pageant, but are expected to be distributed at a simple ceremony to be held at the L&L Club in Linden on Friday.
Reigning Miss Guyana Universe and Miss Linden Town Week 2010 Ruqquyah Boyer and 2011 winner Kishanna Alicock also graced the stage with their presence. Alicock, in her final walk, exclaimed that it was both an honour and a privilege to serve the community during her reign.
