Soca power couple making the switch to Digicel?

Trinida’s soca power couple Ian “Bunji Garlin” Alvarez and Fay-Ann Lyons-Alvarez may be on the verge of closing an endorsement deal with mobile services provider Digicel.

Both performers—two of the biggest acts in soca—were previously spokespeople for bmobile, but have been free agents for more than a year.

The pair have been very visible recently at Digicel events—namely, the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone at Digicel’s Trincity Mall branch last Saturday. On Wednesday night, they also attended the Digicel mobile expo at Digicel Imax Theatre, One Woodbrook Place.

“I cannot confirm any of the questions. We have a lot of friends at Digicel and people we consider family. We have Digicel phones, and are loyal Digicel customers. I cannot confirm anything,” Lyons-Alvarez said.

Digicel chief executive John Delves, who was also at the theatre, refused to confirm as well, but did leave his statements ambiguous.

“We are very happy they are here tonight. We met them at the Trincity store and we invited them tonight. They are friends of Digicel. We have not signed anything with them, but think they are fantastic. We hope this is the start of a very positive relationship,” he said.
