Alicia Bess wins Guyana Jamzone

From a shortlist of three Guyanese beauties 23-year-old Alicia Nichola Bess has won the coveted title and chance to represent Guyana against a bevy of Caribbean beauties at the upcoming Miss Jamzone international pageant. This graduate of the St Roses and St Josephs High Schools was crowned last evening. In a post on the Miss Jamzone face-book page made the announcement that stated: ‘Delegate #3 Alicia Bess walked away with the crown this evening when the finale of the Miss Guyana Jamzone pageant was hosted! Great job Alicia.’ Miss Guyana who is a former employee of Republic Bank is the Admin Manager at Au drilling inc. an Australian Drilling Company and is also a student of School of the Nations. The international pageant is slated for August August 21 and the first prize is US$10,000.

Bess won the title over Ashley Cameron and Christel Mittelholzer through a month long reality television process aired on HJtv Ch 72. Ultimately the public had a hand in selecting the queen through text-voting.

Jovan Wilson who won the 2011 Miss Guyana Jamzone crown walked away with $3million while last years queen also became an instant millionaire. It is not yet clear what prize Bess has won aside from the title and the chance to represent Guyana.

Since the pageant has gone International no Guyanese has ever kept the crown home while Jamaica has won twice and Trinidad once. The queens thus far are Miss Lesa Gayle Wee Thom in 2010 and the 2012 reigning queen is Miss Kerrie Baylis of Jamaica also. Miss Jamzone International 2011 is Journalist/Model Davia Chambers!

The most outstanding Jamzone international queen to date queen to date is the holder of the first win in 2010, Miss Lisa Gayle Wee Thom. She has gone on to win the title of Miss Humanity International 2012 staged in Barbados wearing the Miss Jamzone crown while Miss Guyana Universe Me Leesa Payne copped the second spot in that international pageant.

From the first moment she walked on stage, Kerrie Baylis had the audience on her side. Her Cultural presentation was definitely one of the highlights of the night’s proceedings. Baylis sold Jamaica like a true Tourism ambassador. At the beginning of her presentation she said ‘I’m the Jamaican Dancehall Queen’ as she entered on stage dancing to the popular Jamaican song by Beenie Man and Chevelle Franklin and she sure did lived up to that title. The crowd was uncontrollable as she gyrated to Konshen’s ‘Bubble Gyal’, followed up with Elephant Man’s ‘Nuh Linga’ and placed the cherry on the cake by scanting to Brother Bob’s ‘Three Little Birds’ amongst a slew of other Jamaican songs. She was BRILLIANT in EVERY segment! In the end it was no surprise that Miss Kerrie Baylis of Jamaica was crowned as the third Miss Jamzone International Queen!
Guyanese Queens

Linguist Niketa Archer who is probably the most invisible queen after the pageant to date was Guyana’s first representative at the Miss Jamzone International 2010 pageant and she went on to place 3rd, in 2011 Berbician Jovan Wilson she had no idea that she would be the walking away with over three million dollars altogether in cash and prizes and a lifetime of memories placed second while University student Ayana Harris placed as the 3rd runner up in 2012.
