R&B Legend R. Kelly in a telephone interview said that he is excited about his first performance not only in Guyana but in South America and is looking forward to covering “new territory” come October 19, 2013 when he will perform live at the ‘Redemption Concert’ which will be hosted inside of the Guyana National Stadium!
“It’s an unbelievable feeling because its new territory to cover and I love doing that… I heard I got a lot of fans down there too!” the multi Grammy award winner exclaimed.
Guyanese fans were disappointed when the August 24, 2013 concert was postponed but many supported the promoters and kept their tickets despite a refund being available. Asked about the reason for the rescheduling, Kells explained that he had just finished wrapping up a great show in South Africa and needed more preparation time for the Guyana concert. “I believe in giving the fans 100% of me when I get on that stage and we just needed a little bit more time to make that show perfect,” he noted, promising to make October 19 memorable for all in attendance.
Hits and Jams Entertainment’s Director, Kerwin Bollers, questioned the megastar about putting together his running order and it was admitted that this is the most challenging task. “That can be the hardest thing in the world; putting together a show. That’s why I like taking my time in putting together a show. I’ve been lucky and blessed to do all this music but now the challenge is to put it all together on stage but I always manage to do it,” R. Kelly noted.
Sitting on the panel along with Bollers were Mr. Odinga Lumumba and Mr. Steve Ninvalle from McNeal Enterprise as well as Radio Personality Gordon Moseley.
Asked about his ability to stay relevant in the music industry after more than a decade, R. Kelly said he owed this to simply being true to his work and fans. He further stated that he loved writing records that represents his character as a man and a person and ones that also represent people. The songs, he added, make up a story of not only his life but a story of everyone’s life. R. Kelly also noted that he owes his wide audience to his work ethics and passion to work consistently.
Further pointing out that the music industry has changed quite dramatically, R. Kelly affirmed that nothing is wrong with change as long as it is better, stays creative and stays inspiring. Also, with so much fresh, new talent in the music industry, the artiste stated that he remains in the game by not competing. “I’m not here to win, I am here to touch everything,” he said.
R. Kelly’s twelfth solo studio album, Black Panties, releases soon! Before ending the phone call, he noted that this album is dedicated to all his female fans and supporters from around the world, adding that it is “very sexual” and can be considered “the new 12-play of the day”.
R. Kelly is expected to arrive in Guyana on October 18, 2013 and will be performing the following day at the Guyana National Stadium. Also performing on that evening is Morgan Heritage, Kes the Band and KI and the JMC 3Veni Band.
