Guyana Fashion Week (GFW) begins its spectacular run of showcases on Sunday, October 20 at Parc Rayne (Rahaman’s Park) and will conclude on October 27.
The event would feature the culinary skills of the chefs, who will be paired with GFW designers to come up with wondrous synergies of fashion and food themed through truly imaginative concepts and backed up by eclectic strains of jazz music by Ras Camo.
This year, the production would include a string of workshops catering to ancillary elements of the creative arts.
A music workshop conducted by Ronnie Morris, founder and director of the prestigious Barbados Music Awards, a dance workshop led by the very talented Broadway star Shakira Marshall, a hair seminar done by regional hair educator and stylist Essenese Sambury, styling and confidence awareness by Caribbean’s Next Top Model (CNTM) fashion guru Richard Young will all be a part of this year’s event.
Photography will be provided by international photographer Donn Thompson. These are just some of the informative and enlightening by-products of this year’s inaugural fashion week.
Fashion 2Adding spunk to the model cast are Arti Cameron, Miss Guyana World 2011; the face of GFW 2013, Athaliah Samuel who is Miss Trinidad and Tobago World 2013/ National Director Miss Trinidad and Tobago World; and finalist of CNTM, Ayana Whitehead – second runner-up, Miss Guyana Universe 2013 – and winner of the face of JQ Rodney Bay Mall, St Lucia.

The lineup of local talent is magnificent and multi-faceted, says creative director of GFW, Richard Young. The designers have upped the ante and would be presenting Caribbean meets South
American style, imbued with Guyanese flair and possessing international appeal.
