FIFA World Cup arrives in Guyana today

History will be created today when the FIFA World Cup trophy touches down in Guyana for the first time.

The trophy will arrive at in Guyana at 09:00h via a special charter aircraft on its penultimate stop on the 22-country Caribbean tour. The final leg of the Caribbean tour will take place in Trinidad and Tobago.

The tour is being facilitated by FIFA through its corporate partner Coca Cola, and local franchise Banks DIH Limited has been putting systems in place to ensure the event is a grand success.

Following a press conference in the arrival lounge of the airport, the delegation will then travel to Georgetown where a four-hour programme of novelty football events and the viewing and photography with the trophy will take place with invitees to the event starting at 13:00 hours.

Later on in the evening, a gala reception will be hosted at Banks DIH Sports Club where dignitaries, including President Donald Ramotar, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds and the Brazilian Ambassador will have the opportunity to share in the historic moment.

The delegation will be led by FIFA Ambassador Dwight Yorke, the former Trinidad and Tobago and Aston Villa footballer.
