This Christmas season saw the Hits and Jams Entertainment reaching out to the less fortunate and spreading the joy of the holidays to families and kids who believe in the spirit of Christmas.
Weeks before, the entertainment company launched a book, toys, clothing, sneakers and food drive to which kind-hearted persons contributed and as a result, made Hits and Jams Entertainment’s charity a success.
On Sunday, December 22, 2013, HJ television and radio personalities, DJs and staff spent the day in the Albouystown community where items were distributed to children and persons who met at the area’s basketball court. Special rewards were also given to kids who proved their hard work over the last school semester by show of their report books. In addition to this, Santa Claus and his little elf were present to meet with the children and to take quick pictures.
It was an extraordinary feeling to see the joy on the faces of the Albouystown residents and this alone proved that the outreach had been a tremendous success.
Apart from this, kids had been writing to HJ 94.1 Boom FM (Santa Claus) telling us their wildest dreams for this Christmas. Hits and Jams delivered as many gifts as possible with the help of Santa Claus and his elf, surprising numerous children at their homes while some uplifted their presents at the Hits and Jams studio.
As though that was not enough, several promotions were launched both on social media and on the radio whereby participants were entered into a grand drawing by way of submitting coupons won. These persons won fabulous prizes such as phones, tablets, Ipods, beauty hampers, jewellery, clothing vouchers, food vouchers, beverages and much more.
This project was done under the Keem Foundation umbrella, a fund which started following the story of six-year-old Zeniha Loo who was diagnosed with a brain tumor that left her unable to walk, eat or speak. Her parents, Roger Loo and Natase Mc Calman, had appealed to the public for assistance in raising funds to have the child undergo surgery.
Hits and Jams had supported this cause and developed the ‘Zeniha Telethon’. However,
despite these efforts, little Zeniha subsequently succumbed to the tumor.
This cause is held close to the hearts of the HJ family, especially Chief Executive Officer, Rawle Ferguson, who developed the foundation in honour of his late son, Rakeem Rahul Alphonso Ferguson, who passed away after a battle with leukemia at the tender age of 10.
With funds raised all year round, inclusive of donations from Corporate Guyana and other persons, coupled with material contributions from companies and individuals, Hits and Jams utilizes Rakeem’s memory to give back to children in need, not only at Christmas but all through the year.
