Bunji receives his Soul Train Award

Bunji Garlin finally got to hold his Soul Train Award yesterday, a month after winning it for his song “Differentology”.

Garlin won the Best International Performance category of the awards show last December but said that by the time he received the award, all the excitement wore off.
“I am glad to have it; but I celebrated that moment already,” he said.

The entertainer was at his Viking House office in St James yesterday when manager Dexter Thomas brought the package to him. At the time Garlin said, he had just picked up wife Fay Ann and four-year-old daughter Syri from school and was pleased that he got his wish to open the package in front of his family.

“Fay Ann was there, my daughter was there and my niece, because it is a kind of family business.” Daughter Syri was excited, he said, about the award and knew exactly what it meant for her famous daddy.

The “Red Light District” and “Truck on the Road” singer said he was especially touched when Fay Ann told him how proud she was of him “not just as a wife but from one soca artiste to the next”.

“I think holding the award sealed the deal for me that I won.”

Garlin said he still has a lot of work to do in the industry and that awards like his Soul Train and Anslem Douglas’s Grammy should be put in schools to inspire students.
