Former West Indies cricketer Omari Banks has released the video for his latest single, Jehovah Message.
The video, shot in his native Anguilla under the direction of R&R Productions, is his second to date. It is now airing locally and in the Caribbean.
Banks, the son of famous Anguillan reggae artiste, Bankie Banx, enjoyed a fruitful West Indies cricket career before pursuing reggae music professionally.
In a media release, Banks commented about the song and the video. “The song Jehovah Message is about the freedom to live your life and to make your own decisions as long as they don’t interfere with other people. The idea for the song came about as I started to grow my hair after retiring from cricket and pursuing music. We have to be free to live our lives, so Jehovah for me is the representation of God, and I feel my purpose in music is to spread a message of love and peace and progress,” he explained.
Banks and his brother, Olaide, worked on the concept and treatment for the video. This is his second video. In 2013, he released the video for the single, Unafraid, which did well on Tempo Networks. The video was also a favourite in parts of Europe.
Banks notes that videos are very important for the advancement of an artiste’s career.
“A video is critical to any artiste’s career. That’s the visual element. Sometimes, for an upcoming or new artiste, it can be difficult to get mainstream radio airplay, but with a strong video on YouTube or wherever, you stand a better chance reaching more people and letting them get to know you as an artiste,” Banks pointed out.
