Come Easter the events are many around the world But if you are in Guyana and wish to experience the thrills and spills associated with the Bartica Regatta then get yourself prepared for a week of activities to give new meaning to Easter out of town. According to sources in Region seven (7) all roads lead to the Gateway to the interior as much excitement is on the offer for domestic and regional tourists. The Bartica Regatta Committee is bent on ensuring that it is the go to section of Guyana for the Week leading right into Easter starting April 14.
The seven days of event begin on that day with the annual football tournament and will see eight teams competing for the coveted title and the prizes that go with it. Sources confirm that four of the teams are from Bartica and another four including Georgetown, are invited to participate to clash in the competition.
On April 19 the final is carded for the Bartica Community Centre Ground and as part of the entertainment Guyana’s own HEATWAVE will be the featured band for the after form 19:00hrs.
Christians will be given a chance to be a part of the third annual Gospel Fest titled “The best is yet to come” on April 18 when Barbados gospel artiste Hosea Hinds will team up with Guyana’s own Kester D, Solid Youth, Anil Azeez and the E-Praise Band. The venue for that concert is the slated for the Bartica Community Center Ground. Tickets for the event cost $1,000.
Then come Easter Sunday the thrills and spills can be witnessed when the masses gather to see power boats in action competitively by day while the Annual Miss Bartica Regatta Pageant is slated for 20:00hrs at the Bartica Community Centre Ground. Nine delegates from have made the shortlist to compete for the crown and the prizes that go with whoever is crowned queen for 2014. Faydeha King is the reigning queen who will be passing on the tiara.
The Sashing date is fixed April 6 in Bartica and patrons can enjoy the event by pay only $2000 to enter.
The action continues on Easter Monday with another day of Power boat racing which will be followed by a Regatta Washdown at the Golden beach resort. Admission to the Power Boat racing is $1,000 for adults and $500 for children.
On Monday too, a children fun day is slated for the Bartica Community Centre Ground and child related characters such as Dora the Explorer and Diego will be in attendance. And while over the years only the adults were focused on stage the children will have a chance to shine on stage as a fashion show is carded to show case a Fun Children Party line of clothing.
