GT&T continues its support to the social, cultural and educational fabric of Guyana.
On Tuesday, the company made a donation of $500,000 to the Saraswati Vidya Niketan, a not-for-profit secondary educational institution located at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
The financial contribution is in aid of the institutions efforts to construct a science laboratory.
According to Swami Aksharananda, the Principal-Founder of the school, the schools which started 10 years ago with 35 students and 5 teachers has grown to a 475 student population with 32 teachers.
The school has earned its place as a top secondary school in Guyana producing outstanding students at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate Examinations.
Last year one of its students, Ms. Rafena Mustapha was awarded the CXC Caribbean Humanities Award.
Swami Aksharananda said that in order to provide a more rounded education; the science component needs to be added to the school’s curriculum. The school is offering Science to a batch of students this year but there is need for a permanent Science Laboratory.
GT&T has commended the efforts of the institution and is expressed satisfaction to aid in efforts to further boost the level of educational output.
