Lisa Punch into ABC’s “Rising Star” second round

Lisa Punch on Sunday evening proved to the rest of the world that she is a force to be reckoned with when she appeared on ABC’s reality vocal show “Rising Stars”.

Singing Whitney Houston’s “How will I know”, she managed to amass 80 points to raise the wall of the international television song competition which indicated that she qualified for the second round.

The Charlotte Street, Georgetown girl will again be performing in two weeks in the next round of the competition. In Sunday’s premiere, she used her main tool, her vocal abilities, mixed with emotions, to rock the audience with her saucy presentation that led to a standing ovation from not only the audience but also the judges. Starting like a ballad and bursting with and energetic bubbles of freshness, her overall presentation won the hearts and the additional seven votes each from the three judges.

After showcasing her life’s reality in Guyana and the USA on international television, Punch recalled that before hitting the stage, she was nervous but afterwards she became more confident as she performed. “After a while, I put the nervousness aside, went on stage and performed to the best of my ability and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I will raise the walls”.

The natural performer, who ensured that Ludacris pronounced Guyana correctly, further added that after then, she began singing and drew strength emotionally from her family’s circumstances in Charlotte Street and the apartment that she now shares with 12 others in Brooklyn, New York. “After I started to sing, all I thought of was my family, Guyana and New York”.

Although super-excited after her performance, Punch said persons were critical about her “nerves being heard in her voice” which resulted in Brad Paisley telling her that she deserves her own tour bus. As she heads into the other round, she said that she will definitely step up her game, noting that she expects fiercer competition. She told Guyana Times that it was indeed “a dream come true” for her and that while she expects more competition in the coming weeks, she will make Guyana proud.

She thanked her many fans who voted her and those who have showed her much love before and after her presentation. Guyanese were glued to their television screens Sunday evening to watch the young woman performed.
