The delegates of the Miss and Mister Guyana Talented Teen Pageants were unveiled to the public on Sunday evening as Simpli Royal launched its 2014 edition of the pageants at Herdmanston Lodge, Peter Rose Street, Georgetown.
Despite a late start to the simple sashing ceremony, it was worth the wait as six stunning beauties and seven handsome young men swept the audience off their feet with, charisma and uniqueness.
Those competing for the title of Miss Guyana Talented Teen are: Akeila Dey, sponsored by Y&J International; Breana Nicholas, sponsored by Glow International Hotel; Felicia Sears, sponsored by Miss Williams Digital; Kimberly Sattaur, sponsored by Sattaur Enterprises and Genesis Trading; Lianna Williams, sponsored by the Thom family and Rissa Sooklal, sponsored by Grand Coastal Hotel.
In the male lineup competing for the crown of Mister Guyana Talented Teen are Daniel Ifill, sponsored by Brant Enterprises; Delroy Walcott, sponsored by Walcott Enterprises; Desmond Fernandes, sponsored by Atlantic Imports; Meshack Anthony Howard, sponsored by Alphonso Enterprises; Mikel Andrews, sponsored by Blue Mountain Resort; Mikhail Rampersaud, sponsored by Creative Image and Stephen Validum, sponsored by Guyanese designer Randy Madray.
The delegates will compete for the coveted titles on July 6 at the National Cultural Centre where they are expected to showcase their talent, evening wear, intelligence and sportswear. They will be judged on several aspects of the competition before the grand finale. Those scores will be tallied and added to the final scores at the end of pageant night which will then determine the Miss Guyana and Mister Guyana Talented Teen winners.
The first open event will be the Cotillion, which will be hosted at the Pegasus Hotel next Saturday. After this aspect of the competition, the delegates will have one week to get their final pieces together for the grand finale.
At the sashing ceremony on Sunday evening, franchise holder Pamela Dillon told the gathering that she was indeed impressed with the batch of young people in this year’s pageant. She noted that they have shown maturity in every aspect.
Simpli Royal, she added, continues to show its commitment in training young people to become role models in society and more so, to give them a chance to explore their inner qualities and uniqueness. She referenced the reigning Miss PJD2 Caribbean, Alicia Bess, who faced all the odds, kept her head high and continues to strive in the pageant industry.
Dillon also thanked the numerous persons who have been with the pageant from its inception and also expressed her profound gratitude to those persons who have supported the pageant tremendously.
Meanwhile, the sashing ceremony saw the delegates sporting various outfits designed by Maxi Williams, Nelsion Nurse, Randy Madray, Paul Burnette, Deryck Moore, and Clinton Duncan. There were also several vocal presentations including those of the reigning Mister Talented Teen Kiefer Smith and Miss Guyana Talented Teen Tiffany Boner.
One of the contestants from the previous year’s pageant, Fazil Rahaman also reminisced on his participation in the pageant, describing it as memorable. He recalled the fun times he had with his newly found friends, noting that pageants such as these bring people together despite their differences. The Miss and Mister Guyana Talented Teen 2014 Pageants are sponsored by Fly Jamaica, Pegasus Hotel, Herdmanston Lodge, Glitz and Glamour Jewellery, Motor Boutique, among others.
