Ruqayyah Boyer to represent Guyana at Miss International

Former Miss Guyana Universe and Miss Guyana World, Ruqayyah Boyer wings out of the United States of America for Japan to prepare for the 54th Miss International Beauty Pageant which will be held from October 29 to November 11, in Tokyo.

Considered the third largest and most popular pageant in the world and run by the Japanese, the Miss International pageant will be the first of the “Big 4” pageants (Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Earth) to be held this year.

Eighty-nine contestants from around the world have confirmed their participation in this prestigious quest but it will be the first time, Guyana will be represented.

In terms of her expectations in the pageant, she said “I will be bringing my A game and given that I have now gained experience from both Miss World and the Miss Universe pageant, I am somewhat familiar, better equipped and more prepared for what is to come”.

Boyer, who recently underwent training in the Philippines, said that it is the first time she received intense training for an international contest of such stature and she believes that the training will greatly impact her presentation and projections on stage.

She recalled that they had to undergo training as a team and she was a part of the Gouldian Camp which focused on hair and makeup, catwalk, evening and swimwear presentation, interviews, wardrobe styling, Japanese etiquette and culture.

In a recent interview, the former beauty queen noted that in the world of pageantry a representative can only do so much but what is even more essential is the country’s support be visible.

“It’s a collective effort and I have through my experiences been able to garner much needed support, wisdom and the love of those who believe in my journey”.

Nevertheless, she feels prepared as says she has worked and trained hard to make it this far and is looking forward to returning home with that glorious pearl crown.

At the pageant, Boyer will be pre judged overall but the segment that will be focused on are evening wear, talent, swimwear, international forum and final speech.

On pageant night she will be wearing evening gowns designed by Leo Almodal, a Filipino designer, while her national costume was put together by Guyanese designer, Michelle Cole of ColeFacts. The costume is dubbed ‘Goddess of the lost city of Eldorado’. Her swimwear was designed by another Guyanese designer, Roger Gary.

The flight attendant is currently based in the United Stated and continues to be an advocate against domestic violence.

Meanwhile, as former Miss Guyana Universe, 2012, she advised the nine delegates vying for the title on Sunday evening to follow their ‘gut’ feeling and be confident.

“In my experience it’s never the smartest, prettiest or most seasoned person who wins but she that is best prepared and exudes confidence. See the crown before you wear it, eat it, breathe it, dream it and practice the laws of attraction, whatever you put in that’s what you’ll get out… there are no losers, such post is a state of mind so think positive and best wishes to this year’s batch”.

The Miss International beauty pageant is Boyer’s third major international contest. She personally thanked her Director who also manages the reigning Ms World Guyana, Ms Natasha Martindale and all the sponsors and persons who invested in this endeavour.
