In two weeks, a new Miss Universe will be crowned in Dora, Miami with over 86 delegates from across the world vying for the coveted title. Guyana’s delegate, 24-year-old Niketa Barker has left Guyana with the aim of bring home Guyana’s first Miss Universe title.
Ever since her arrival in Dora, Miami, the Guyanese beauty has been a part of several photo shoots and preliminary competitions and is said to be doing well. The pageant is slated for January 25 and will be televised live across the world.
Barker was crowned Miss Guyana Universe in October 2014 after she outshone eight other delegates to win the title.
This beauty is two years away from attaining her Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Guyana. Not all about the books, Barker is in fact a philanthropist, a children’s advocate and a part time model.
This family oriented nature-lover, fashion and pageant enthusiast, lost her home to a fire at age 15. This loss was a life-changing experience for the young woman.
Then two short years later, at the age of 17, she lost her dad; an extremely traumatic event. Niketa is a firm a believer that such tragedies only serve to make a person stronger.
She has been motivated not only to pursue a prestigious career but also to live everyday as if it were her last. She hopes that when she leaves this world, she leaves nothing short of a legacy in her wake, a legacy that others would be proud to emulate.
This left handed beauty stands 5’ 9” and is very comfortable in the kitchen since, she started preparing meals for her family at age 10.
