Reigning Carib Soca Monarch Kwasi “Ace” Edmondson has departed for the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to compete in the semi finals of the International Soca Monarch slated for January 25 in the Queens Park Oval.
If he makes it through the semis, he will compete against the reigning international monarch, Machel Montano on Fantastic Friday, February 13.
However, the semis, referred to as the largest “Soca Picnic for Carnival” will feature 84 contestants performing their pieces for a chance to claim the Lotto Plus International Power Soca Monarch and the Digicel International Groovy Soca Monarch titles.
This year, semi finalists will create history by competing for the first time at The Greens in the Queen’s Park Savannah. The gates to the cooler-styled event will open at 12:00h, with the show beginning at 14:00h, allowing patrons to spend an entertaining afternoon into night with sweet soca. Successful competitors will advance to the finals on Fantastic Friday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
Edmondson will be performing his new tune “Forking” and is confident in moving into the finals. In a telephone conversation, the Guyanese singer said that he is more thankful for the opportunity to represent Guyana and intends to do his best.
He will be competing with top class artistes such as Swappi, Destra, Nadia Batson, Ravi B, Shurwayne, Skinny Fabulous, Patrice Roberts, 5 Star Akil, Biggie Irie, Farmer Nappy and many others. The Guyanese contender says he remains fearless despite the big names in the business.
