Guyana’s Reigning Carib Soca Monarch, Kwasi Ace Edmondson is confident that he will retain the title when the competition is held on Saturday evening at the National Park Tarmac, Georgetown.
In a recent interview, the artiste who will compete with 14 other contestants said he has what it takes to retain the title and has been working exceedingly hard to make it become a reality.
He will be entering the competition with the self written ‘Forking’ that has similar lyrics to “Same Thing” with which he won the 2014 title.
The semi finals were held in New Amsterdam with 16 artistes competing to secure a spot in the finals. Fourteen artistes went through and are all ready to hit the stage on Saturday evening.
The finalists are George Abrams with ‘Mirror’, Two-time Carib Soca Monarch, Jumo Primo with his entry, ‘Unruly’. The others are Devon Lewis with his entry ‘I Ain’t Gon Be Late’ while Ernesta Nelson will be performing ‘Ain’t Stopping’ and Jermaine Mac Been with ‘Bumpa’.
The others include Jonathan King with his entry, ‘Mash Up De Place’; dancehall artiste, Jory Hector with ‘Whistle’; Kemmyanna Garnett with ‘One for My Country’; Levar Gittens will be performing ‘Monster Attack’; Mark Amar with ‘Right Now’ and Melissa Roberts with ‘Massive’.
Rounding off the top 18 is Onassis Croker with his soca song titled ‘Enjoying My Life’; Orlando Johashen with ‘Ebola’; Quacy Coates will be performing, ‘She Ready’ and Timika Nicholson with ‘Feva’.
The reigning monarch will be the first contestant performing and he expects to set the bar for the remaining artistes.
Tickets to the event cost $1500 and will be available at the gates. Carib lovers can get a free ticket with the purchase of a six pack of beers.
