For many lovers of dancehall and reggae, the name Mavado is a household name and a staple in the dancehall arena for many years. Celebrating 10 years in the music industry this year, Mavado is set to give his fans performances like no other, music like never before and a single featuring his one time rival Vybz Kartel. This milestone will commemorate a series of events and releases, which celebrates the sing-jay’s accomplishments and fans. “The journey hasn’t been an easy one but I give thanks for everything same way and give thanks to the Almighty that I am apart of the dancehall fraternity for 10 years and still on top” says Mavado.
David Constantine Brooks aka Mavado, came on the scene in 2005 with his hit single ‘Real McKoy’ on the Anger Management rhythm and the rest became history. Instantly Mavado became Jamaica’s newest gangsta singjay who was easily recognized to the public by his signature phrase ‘Gangsta For Life’. Fast forward to 2015, Mavado has began touring with his band, ‘Gully Side Band’ and giving patrons a more entertaining performance and a performance which connects with his fans. “Performing with my DJ have always been the type of shows people know me for and I will continue to give them those type of shows. But I want to also give people an opportunity to see me perform with live music, its a different experience, which I take very seriously. I rehearse every chance I get with my band just to make sure my performances are up to par” say Mavado.
Currently signed to ‘We The Best Music’ Mavado recently released a single title ‘I Aint Goin Back Broke’, which received accolades from numerous popular music websites.
Complex.com stated “dancehall legend Mavado is one of the secret weapons of DJ Khaleds We The Best Music line up, and he proves it with his new single “I Aint Goin Back Broke”. Mavado is joined by We The Best label mate Ace Hood and Future on this inspirational tale, and they both add their signature aggressive and melodic styles to the table. This past week Mavado announced that the remix of “I Aint Goin Back Broke” will feature his one time rival now friend, Vybz Kartel. “Celebrating 10 years and my success it is only right to release this track now with who was my one time rival Vybz Kartel “The Teacher” and continue to create history together” says Mavado. The release date has not been announced but it will be very soon.
Mavado is also looking forward to creating history on April 10th, 2015 as he will be one of the first dancehall artist to perform inside the newly renovated 94 million dollar Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York. Mavado will perform live with Gully Side Band along with the ‘Fire Man’ Capleton, Queen of Dancehall Lady Saw and Jewish Reggae artist Matisyahu. “This event is a red carpet event! With 10 years of experience comes maturity, people can expect on April 10th to see and hear Mavado in full concert 10 years of hits and many surprises” says Mavado.
