The fifth annual Digicel Schools football tournament will begin next Wednesday.
At the official launch of the competition on Wednesday in the auditorium of the Beterverwagting Secondary School, East Coast Demerara, it was announced that more than 160 schools from the 10 regions will compete in a knockout format.
The format for this year’s competition will see Georgetown divided into three zones, namely East Coast Demerara, East Bank Demerara and Georgetown. Georgetown will further be broken down into two zones, North and South.
Thus there will be 12 ‘regional’ champions who will battle for the national title, with the grand final set for August 12 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
The Christianburg/Wismar Secondary are the defending champs after securing the trophy for the last three years in succession.
