All roads will lead to the Umbrella Resort, Soesdyke/Linden Highway for “Carnival on the Highway” featuring Macka Diamond on November 1.
Macka Diamond is a Jamaican singer and writer. She was born in Kingston and raised in Portmore. She was influenced by female artistes such as Mama Nancy, Lady Ann, Lady Junie and Lady G, who were big name entertainers at that time.
With Lady Junie’s help, she got the chance to record “Don Girl”. After a string of singles, including collaborations with Captain Barkey and Wickerman, she changed her name to Macka Diamond with her 2003 single “Tek Con”, a protest record to Vybz Kartel’s chauvinistic track “Tek Buddy”.
She released a new album “Don’t Disturb Mi’ in 2012, and has been creating some buzz.
The artiste is expected to perform live from 16:00h. Also adding some flavour to the carnival-like event will be a football competition which will see Sparta Boss and Bent Street clashing head on for cash prize of $200,000. This match is sponsored by Blue Iguana Sports Bar and the game kicks off at 13:00h.
There will also be a ‘Miss Goodlooking’ contest starting from 15:00h. More excitingly, there will be a dance contest for ladies and ‘fat men’. To add to the attraction, the event will also see dancers from Jamaica, Guyana and Brazil heating up the stage.
Music will be provided by Slingerz Family, DJ Killa Feelings out of Afrikan Vibz and Deejay Puffy. Admission to the event cost $2000. Gates open at 10:00h.
