With effect from December 23, 2015 to January 1, 2016, there will be no enforcement of the party done curfew and businesses will be allowed to keep their doors and entertainment spots open through the night.

The Ministry of Public Security has announced that it is relaxing the enforcement of the curfew for bars and clubs to close their doors by 2:00am.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry said it has been inundated with requests from various promoters and business owners for an extension of the time for partying during this festive season.

With effect from December 23, 2015 to January 1, 2016, there will be no enforcement of the party done curfew and businesses will be allowed to keep their doors and entertainment spots open through the night.

The 2:00am closure curfew was being enforced as part of the Public Security Ministry’s efforts to clamp down on drunk driving and criminal activity.

Several business owners and promoters had criticized the move pointing to no known links between late night partying and criminal activity.

While they are all hoping for a permanent change to the law that allows the 2:00am curfew, many promoters are pleased with the holiday relaxing of the curfew and believe it will aid a boost to the local economy.
