The Sonia Noel Foundation for Creative Arts partners with Oxygen with Nicole, O2N, to host a women’s empowerment forum, O2N Guyana, on the 6th March to commemorate International Women;s Day on March 8th.
O2N is the brainchild of Trinidadian Nicole Dyer Griffith who crafted this motivational series as a means to channel the airing of provocative women’s concerns while championing the untold stories of their unique yet ubiquitous achievements. Having constructed a “safe space” for the ventilation of two successful installments of the series, in Trinidad, celebrating resilience, sacrifice, integrity, dignity and downright empowerment of women, it was felt that a regional presence be the natural segue for substantiating the relevance of this evidently needed forum.
Richard Young, known as the Caribbean fashion guru on Caribbean’s Next Top Model, was enlisted to evangelize the mission through his passionately Caribbeanist perspective. Having been one of the original speakers and recently serving as moderator for the second O2N, he mobilized his brand equity to facilitate a Caribbean campaign. Reaching out to his Caribbean counterparts, he has set up a 2016 run, kicking off in Georgetown in honour of International Women’s Day on March 8th.
Indeed, his fellow integrationist colleague in the Arts, Sonia Noel, jumped on board to celebrate the achievements, of not only high profile movers and shakers, but to also document the extraordinary lives of ordinary women, whose determination, in face of many an adversity, has shone resplendently like a beacon in the dark night, and has elevated us all in the process. The Sonia Noel Foundation for Creative Arts immediately began facilitating this pioneering work and joins the global pledge for gender parity, the underpinning of this year’s IWA commemoration
Nicole Dyer is elated that her vision for women’s networking and women’s liberation, is assuming regional proportions and looks forward earnestly for all the collaborative energy that would be invested in advancing the cause to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding. It is quite heartening to see the outreach efforts of both public and private sector in accelerating gender equality, by coursing an avenue where talk can become purposeful action in moulding the the ‘safe space’ for the unleashing, the emancipation and the forging of women’s access to otherwise uncharted domain O2N Guyana will host the roll out for the event on March 6th.
