DIGICEL Sponsors Guyana’s TOTEM POLE

A totem pole which is used as a symbol of unity was unveiled on Friday March 11th at the National Art Gallery, Castellani House Georgetown. Digicel Guyana is the proud sponsor of this event which is part of Guyana’s Golden Jubilee celebrations at the launch event CEO Kevin Kelly mentioned that “Digicel is pleased to be here this afternoon as the main sponsor of this significant event. As a company, we stand committed to the development of our youths and the preservation of our culture and heritage.

Minister within the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Valerie Garrido-Lowe at the unveiling ceremony at Castellani House, said that the mini totem pole is a symbol of Guyanese unity. “The Mini Totem pole being unveiled today is a representation of historical ancestry of our peoples and nation, and it is indeed most honorable for Digicel to be a part of this. The mini totem pole is a symbol of Guyanese unity and will travel the length and breadth of Guyana, in the same way that an Olympic torch does, so that every Guyanese will have the opportunity to celebrate regionally and nationally as one people, one nation with this symbol of unity” according to a GINA release.

Digicel is in all ten regions of Guyana and more importantly in the Indigenous communities and villages. In most of these communities, Digicel is the only Telecommunications provider this is one of the foremost reasons why we chose to be a part of this project, as it directly connects with our customers in the hinterland regions of Guyana.

Digicel is pleased to be associated with this event and we see this as an investment into the cultural landscape of Guyana. The full size totem pole will stand at 50ft and will be unveiled in May at the Umana Yana when Guyana celebrates its 50th Independence Anniversary.
