Mash 2017 was launched Thursday under the theme: “Celebration with dignity, liberty and greater unity.”
Addressing the gathering in front of the Department of Culture, Youth and Sport Main Street office, was Minister in the Ministry of Education, Nicolette Henry, who noted, “Our foreparents worked hard and long for us to enjoy such a rich cultural heritage.” She further noted, “Many sacrifices have been made and endured for us to celebrate and hold our heads high.”
Next year’s celebrations however, will be one in which all Guyanese will “celebrate our freedom with flare and dignity,” according to Minister Henry.
She also underscored that Mashramani, being a celebration after hard work, is a Guyanese celebration and as such all celebrations will encompass Guyana’s rich cultural heritage. Minister Henry disclosed also that Guyanese can expect “all that is customary,” as the celebrations will feature numerous cultural activities, competitions and parades.
“Mashramani 2017 promises to be colourful and inclusive. It is one of the biggest events that all Guyanese look forward to,” said Minister Henry.
