BUSY Signal secures US Work Permit

BUSY Signal has secured a United States work permit and will give his first performance in that country on June 25 at Groovin’ In the Park at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, New York.According to Galey Gordon, Busy Signal’s brother and manager, the singjay is excited about the assignment.

“Busy’s career has steadily been increasing in popularity over the past few years and this performance contributes to this growth by bringing his style and music directly to the people in the United States. Being his first performance in the United States, Busy is extremely excited about it and is anxious to expand his audience throughout the United States,” Gordon said.

R Kelly is headliner for ‘Groovin’, which is arguably the most popular gig among West Indians in the Tri-State area. Freddie McGregor, Ken Boothe and Tarrus Riley are also scheduled to perform.

Organisers Groovin’ Inc say Busy Signal performing in the US is overdue.

“I am happy that this historic performance will be delivered on a Groovin’ stage, the biggest music platform for reggae and R&B music in the US,” said Chris Roberts, Groovin’ Inc’s founder and CEO.

In May 2012 Busy Signal (real name Glendale Gordon) was detained in London for using a false identity. He was deported to Jamaica where he was arrested and extradited to Minnesota to face drug-related charges. He had absconded while awaiting trial a decade earlier.
