Guyana Carnival gets full Government Support

Prior to this decision, it was clear that the Ministry of Business had given its support to the event”.

The Government is throwing its full support behind the Guyana Carnival.

Minister of State, Joe Harmon today told reporters that the coalition administration is supportive of private sector initiatives and the Ministry of Business and Tourism is already on board the Guyana Carnival as one of the sponsors.

Mr. Harmon said “this matter was dealt with at Cabinet on Tuesday and Cabinet gave its approval for the elements of the State to provide the necessary support to the organizers of this event, that is to say the Police and any other regulatory authority of the State. Prior to this decision, it was clear that the Ministry of Business had given its support to the event”.

The Chief Government Spokesman said Cabinet has clarified several issues with the event and the Police will work along with the Organizers.

“I trust that everything goes well and those persons who are planning on coming home, that you activate your mechanisms to get here. It is an important time in the history of this country and we want to say as a Government that private sector and private initiatives of citizens, the Government will support those private initiatives once they do not affect security and orderliness”, he said.

The Minister also said it is important for the Government to work along with the private sector and private sector agencies to ensure the country’s development.

The Guyana Independence Carnival is being organised by a Committee that is made up of a number of private sector companies and agencies. It is headed by the Hits and Jams Entertainment group.

Fly Jamaica Airways and LIAT are both offering special fares for persons wishing to come to Guyana during the Guyana Carnival season, which will run from May 18 to 27.
