Singer Khalia has returned to the island after performing as the opening act for Italian reggae artiste Alborosie’s tour of Latin America. She described the experience as eye opening. ‘It was amazing and eye opening. The feeling of love coming from the people in the countries we stopped was totally different from anything I have ever experienced’, she explained.
The two-week trek saw Khalia performing in Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Chile and Colombia. She said performing in Colombia was a major highlight for her.
‘Performing in front of 30,000+ people and being able to connect with that audience in Colombia was amazing’. The experience was an invaluable one, and Khalia used the opportunity to gain supporters, build on her fan base and to network. ‘I planned those as goals for the tour and they were all accomplished’, she said.
Patrons were receptive to her songs including One Dance (which features I-Octane), Don’t Run and My Name.
‘While performing Don’t Run, I had the crowd singing because some of it is in Spanish and they loved it. My new song Designer was well received so too was My Name, which immediately as the beat drops they started to move because they know that Bookshelf riddim beat’.
Khalia is currently gaining momentum in parts of the United Kingdom with two songs, Designer and Ocean, produced by Tony ‘CD’ Kelly. Ocean is currently number 13 on Chris Coxson Reggae Chart Playlist show on New Style Radio 98.7 FM in Birmingham, and number nine on the Upsetta International Reggae Top 10 chart.
Designer has been gaining traction on radio stations including Capital Xtra, 1Xtra, New Style Radio, North Manchester FM, The Beat London 103.6 FM, and Legacy 90.1 FM.
