Schools out for the summer holidays and Digicel Guyana is reaching out to their community to send a number of children to an all-expense paid computer summer camp at Global Technology. “Kingston and its environs will always have a special place in our heart especially when it comes to the children. We wanted to do something that will have a lasting impression on their minds. At Digicel we have been committed to youth development and empowerment, whether it’s through sports, education or academia. We are as delighted as they to be able to give them this opportunity and expand their horizons”, said Vidya Sanichara of Digicel.
The computer summer camp for kids will offer the children an experience in fundamentals of computer and scratch programming and will run for approximately three weeks beginning August 6thand ending on August 20th. The kids aging from five (5) years to twelve (12) are excited to learn about computers, “I am excited to learn about computers because I think it will help me with my homework” said one very chatty eight year old. Digicel has gotten the assistance from Mr. Junior Forrester to coordinate transportation to get the children to and from summer camp. Mr. Forrester is a very active member of the Kingston community, he is also the Founder Principal & Founder of Kingston Football Development Academy.
Over the twelve years that Digicel has been in Guyana they have contributed significantly to youth and youth development. They have done this through several youth initiatives country wide, like their Schools Football Championship, youth basketball, Track and Field, Squash, Special Olympics, back to school dental outreach just to mention a few.
“As always welcome the opportunity to give back in whatever way we can when. The fact that we can have an impact in bettering the lives of youth and children in communities that we have a strong presence is always heartening to us” noted Sanichara at the presentation of packages on Wednesday July 24that their Fort and Barrack Sts. Kingston head office.
