Police band wins Pan-o-rama

The Guyana Police Force Band was dubbed the winner of the Big Band category beating out Parkside at the Pan-o-rama Steel Band Competition 2013 on Sunday.

In its fifth year, the competition was a collaborative effort between the Culture, Youth and Sport Ministry and Republic Bank Limited. The event featured several bands vying for the top spot in six categories.

The most entertaining performances that night was the school band category. The sports hall was in uproar as each of the five schools blew the crowd away with their energetic performances of “To Serve My Country”. However, North Ruimveldt Multilateral School, led by popular comedian Sir Mars, won after executing an energetic performance. The large/big band category saw each of the three participants mesmerising the audience with their performances. Emerging as the top band, the GPF band blew a siren before they started to perform their piece, “Discipline Is Love”, which sent the audience into a frenzy.
