Digicel lends support to Heritage Month activities

Digicel on Wednesday presented a cheque to Amerindian Affairs Minister Pauline Sukhai to continue its trend of supporting Amerindian Heritage Month’s sports events.

Digicel’s Public Relations Manager Shonnet Moore presented the cheque to the minister, making it the eighth year the company has been supporting the event.

Minister Sukhai highlighted that with the support of the phone company over the years, the ministry has not only developed many hinterland communities, but has also sustained and promoted the development of sports among the youths within.

She said without the communication sector developing and growing, many villages across Guyana may still have been experiencing difficulties on how to get messages out and to interact. This has now been made easy with the sector’s advancement.

Digicel Event and Sponsorship Manager Gavin Hope emphasised that the venture to always support the activities during Amerindian Heritage Month and Hinterland community development will be continuous.

“We see it fit as it relates to personal development and community-based development projects, Digicel has always been eager and willing to get into the communities and assist in whatever activities, projects and programmes they have,” Hope added.
Heritage Sports this year is slated to take place at the Everest Cricket Ground on September 21-22, allowing Amerindians from different regions across Guyana to participate in football, volleyball, cricket, track and field, among others.
