Shakira Marshall & Kirk Brown for GFW

With less than a few weeks before Guyana Fashion Week, all sorts of interesting and exciting things would be unfolding and the event will climb a few notches.

One decidedly fashion-forward addition is the inclusion of dynamic, entrepreneurial celebrity presence, so as to broaden the base of regional appeal and attract more international coverage.

Two very different personalities would be joining the cast at GFW, this year, to spice up the already vibrant schedule of activities.

One is a multi-talented performer of Guyanese parentage who has made a trail-blazing name for herself, from electrifying choreography on music videos for a wide cross section of music genres to performing in award winning Broadway musicals. She is no other than

Shakira Marshall has parlayed her extensive training and her unbelievable natural talents into a wealth of entertainment industry specific knowledge, which she is willing to share and give back to aspiring and upcoming talented youth.

Marshall’s credits include performing with a string of regional and international A-listers such as Allison Hinds, Machel Montano, Elephant Man, Sean Paul, Eve, Macy Gray, Jill Scott and Beyonce.

Another stalwart in the Caribbean landscape of popular regional entertainment is Kirk Brown who is one of Barbados’ brightest stars. He is an award-winning singer and song-writer and a versatile deejay for one of the country’s leading radio stations. Kirk, who is also known for his sound business acumen, has founded his own entertainment company, which owns a recording studio and live band.

To date, he has amassed an eclectic compilation of original tracks, with recent collaborations including “Take Your Time” featuring Vybz Kartel, “Dutty Wine” featuring Fat Man Scoop, “Wine Like Dat” featuring Lil Rick and “Midnight Lover” with Jeri-Marie (niece of Sting from the Police).

Both of these versatile performers would grace GFW, this year as hosts of the event as well as its after parties. They would also be on hand to mentor young individuals, interested in pursuing careers in the entertainment field.
