Mavado appeals assault conviction

Mavado went to court yesterday to appeal an assault conviction. According to his manager, Julian Jones-Griffith, they could not disclose much information about the appeal. However, he said Mavado has faith in the Jamaican justice system and is quite optimistic that the results will be positive.

“Mavado maintains his innocence ever since he was originally charged in this matter. He has every faith in the Jamaican justice system and is confident the appeal will overturn the conviction,” he said.

The manager also said Mavado has been focused on making positive career moves and breaking barriers internationally for reggae and dancehall music.

“He’s just been putting in the work locally and overseas, expanding his fanbase and making music. Give It All To Me is on the playlist of several mainstream radio stations in the US. The song is also on this week’s Core DJs music hotlist, which is a very influential nationwide DJ list to be on, so it’s building nicely,” Griffith said.

Jones-Griffith said, “Universal are setting up for the big push on the record so we expect spins to ramp up in the coming weeks. The video is ready and will premiere next week. We will release the details shortly via social media so everyone can tune in.”

The charges were laid against Mavado in 2011 and stemmed from an incident in St James where members of Mavado’s entourage assaulted a man during a dispute. A Montego Bay promoter was also charged in connection with the case but those charges were dismissed in court earlier this year.
