The New Thriving Restaurant is set to open a new restaurant at the corner of Camp and Lamaha streets soon.
The first New Thriving restaurant was opened on Regent Street in 1993 by Che Jiang Ping and her husband Xiao Guang Zhao. It quickly became one of the most popular places to dine or order “authentic Chinese food” to take out. The menu featured standard Chinese dishes such as fried rice, Wonton Soup and Eggs Foo Young along with more exotic fare.
The couple soon opened a second restaurant in Alexander Street, Kitty and a third on Main Street in 1997. “We’re indebted to the Guyanese people. They have always supported us. Wherever New Thriving has gone, they’ve followed, and we are grateful,” she said. After the Main Street restaurant in the Park Hotel was destroyed by fire in 2001, management rented a second location on Barr Street, Kitty.
In 2009 a new restaurant was opened on Main Street.
