Already one of the contestants for Miss Guyana World has begun her quest for the crown with outreach meetings in Region Two. Rafieya Husain, Contestant Number Two for the Miss World Guyana Pageant slated for May 26 at the National Culture Centre, is representing Region Two.
Husain said her passion for fashion prompted her to join the pageant. She is spending three days in Region Two, taking pictures, meeting Government officials, hospitals and businesses, to build confidence for the pageant.
Her first visit was at the Anna Regina Town Council, where she met Local Government Minister Norman Whittaker, Region Two Chairman Parmanand Persaud and Town Clerk Diane Critchlow, among other top regional officials, while formally introducing herself.
Husain also visited the Regional Democratic Council, where she met with officials from the various departments, as well as students and teachers from the Anna Regina Multilateral School.
She met too with staff of the Education Department, the Suddie Public Hospital and Region Two and the country’s 2013 top student at the last Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), Yogeeta Persaud.
Husain is expected to visit Capoey, Mainstay Resort and a few cultural groups on Thursday and Friday.
She said her greatest dream is to win the Miss World title and walk the fashion runways in the USA, Paris and Milan.
Husain said her passion for modelling started at a very young age, noting that acting and pageantry gave her the opportunity to showcase her talents.
Her platform is domestic violence and finding steps towards raising awareness to address the scourge.
Husain said if she won the Miss Universe crown, she would work with the Miss World Organisation to achieve its goals and would use her platform to address corporate and public leaders, community service groups, the media and others about issues to generate for a variety of causes, including poverty, domestic violence, diabetes, awareness, education and literacy.
“I would like to be more hands on with people sharing my experiences, listening to their challenges and finding support and alternative solutions for a better life,” Husain said.
Husain is one of eight contestants competing for the Miss World Guyana crown.
