Plans are moving apace for the hosting of yet another Jamzone Summer Break, one of the biggest calendar events for the summer. This year, for the first time, Jamzone Summer Break will be held in New York with some of the biggest names in reggae, dancehall and soca scheduled to perform. That event is slated for August 9 in Brooklyn, New York.
After that, Jamzone fever hits Guyana with the first event – the Miss Jamzone International Pageant – billed for August 15 at the National Cultural Centre. This will see at least 10 delegates competing head on to win the US$10,000 prize money and one-year boasting rights.
The delegates include Miss Guyana Soyini Fraser who is confident that she has what it takes to cop the title. Other countries that are in the run for the title are Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, with both countries having won the crown for the past three years.
On August 16, all attention will be on the little ones as the Kids Zone which will be held at the Everest Cricket Club Ground, Carifesta Avenue. As usual, there will be 3D shows, mix and mingling with cartoon characters, face painting and other activities to keep the youths busy.
When the sun sets, Palm Court is the place to be for Brazilian Night, which will see local Brazilian bands steaming up the dance floor. The event is the second of its kind since the existence of Jamzone Summer Break and from all indications, it will be added to the calendar of events permanently.
On August 17, be prepared to witness the stunts and rides as Bikers Fest is held on the tarmac of the National Park. The event is expected to be clean fun, with thrills and spills for the entire family, with special guest riders among other international bikers who will leave patrons breathless.
The Black Tie Auction is set to invade the Pegasus Pool Side on August 20. This event will see the delegates auction several pieces of items from their native country. This event draws some of the most elites in showbiz and the entertainment industry.
All focus will then be placed on the Water Colour Party on August 22 at a venue to be announced later. On the night of August 23, all roads will lead to Hits and Jams Water Park for the Regional Night Concert which will feature Alkaline and soca sensations Bunji Garlin and Fay Ann Lyons. Other artistes are also expected to perform.
The final day of Jamzone Summer Break will be the Beach Party but it will definitely not be at Splashmin’s Fun Park and Resort as previous years. The new venue will be the Hits and Jams Water Park, aback the Princess Hotel and Casino.
