Number 63 Beach will come alive on Sunday, October 12 when the fourth annual Digicel Duck Curry competition is held, which will see winners walking away with over $700,000 in cash and other prizes. The defending champions, Bombay Masala will be coming full force to retain the title.
The first 20 groups to register will be part of the competition on the day of the event. These include persons from across the country, including Berbice and Demerara.
Persons wishing to participate in the competition must bring a minimum of 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds) of duck meat. All participants are allowed to clean and cut their ducks at home, but the meat must be marinated and cooked at the venue.
Participants must also bring their cooking utensils and ingredients. A ready-to-use stove will be provided by the promoters. Registration forms can be uplifted at Digicel stores in New Amsterdam, Rose Hall and Corriverton, Vreed-en-Hoop, and City Mall.
The competition starts at 11:00h and the judging will take place at 16:00h. Registration closes on September 30.
As the sun sets, the stage show commences with some of the best in chutney music. These include Trinidad’s singing sensations Adesh Samaroo and Sally Sagram. A local artiste is also expected to perform. They will be backed by Crown Vibes Sounds out of Berbice.
Make sure to come and be ready to party to the vibes and have an entire day filled with fun and laughter. There will also be a number of games and activities for children, including bouncy castle, trampoline, merry-go-round and face painting.
There will also be novelty events such as lime and spoon races, a bun eating completion, and a sack race where participants can win fabulous prizes.
