While the Global Beauties Leaders Board has Miss Venezuela as the potential favourite to win the 63rd annual Miss Universe title, Miss Guyana Universe Niketa Barker has definitely been creating some buzz in the pageant camp.
Ever since her arrival at the pageant in Doral Miami, USA she has been in competition mood, showcasing her toned physique in the most beautiful swimsuits, with the aim of securing Guyana’s first international crown.
She also participates in various events on a daily basis as the competition intensifies with no less than 80 other delegates vying for the coveted title.
These events include dinners at luxurious hotels in Miami, photo shoots, charitable events and the filming of the Miss Universe Pageant that is slated to be broadcast live on January 25.
On Tuesday evening last, the Guyanese beauty, who hails from New Amsterdam, had her first official interview where she nailed it.
During the interview, she spoke of her country’s diversity; one being its ethnic makeup of six races, of which she is a split image. She said growing up as a young girl, she was always quite but with her two brothers by her side, she always got into fights with them.
She also noted that while growing up, her childhood dream was to become a doctor and this passion grew even stronger with the passing of her father due to a chronic illness.
With confidence and charm, Barker related that Guyanese are the most hospitable people and they look after each other. “In Guyana everybody knows each other”, she reiterated.
As Barker creates a name for herself and Guyana, Guyanese here and abroad have been rallying around the local girl and are all optimistic that she can make it into the top 15.
Social media has been eating up everything she does and with the much needed publicity and support, Miss Guyana might just find herself in one of the top spots.
She was also leading the online Sash People’s Choice Awards for sometime but unfortunately the site crashed.
Barker remains humble and focused. If selected into the top 15, she will be competing in swimwear, evening gown and most importantly, the intelligence segment.
A delegation from Guyana will be travelling up to the United States to show support for the aspiring doctor.
